Qualification aim
This examination tests the candidate's ability to state facts using
appropriate business terminology, understand and interpret information
presented in verbal, numerical and diagrammatical form, apply data
and information appropriately and apply concepts and information
when calculating and solving simple problems.
Target Groups
Anyone seeking a general understanding of how business works, and
aimed at those candidates looking to work in secretarial and clerical
positions in commercial organisations.
Qualification Structure
Available at levels one and two.
Syllabus Areas
Level One covers in detail the general principles and organisation
of business and business activity in the candidate's domestic economy.
Level Two covers the business environment, structure and organisation
of business, decision making, planning and control, people in business
and external/internal influences on organisations.
Assessment method
Practical tasks are carried out under exam conditions. Tasks are
set by City & Guilds Pitman Qualifications examiners and the
final paper is assessed, marked and graded by them.
Level One: Two hour examination (plus ten minutes reading time).
All questions are compulsory.
Level Two: Two and a half hour examination (plus ten minutes reading
time). All questions are compulsory.

Qualifications diploma
Business Studies is one of the single subjects that can make up
either the Secretarial
and Administration Diploma or the Business
Practice Diploma. Candidates must be successful
in five single subjects at appropriate levels to qualify for either
diploma. When candidates have achieved the necessary range of single
subjects they can apply for their diploma.
